Wrestling for Parkland (PA) High School, Jon was a two-time Pennsylvania State Champion at 189 pounds in 1998 and 1999. He went on to become one of Lehigh’s all-time best athletes, ranking 1st in career wins (133), 3rd in bonus wins and 4th in falls.

 

Coached by Greg Strobel, Jon became a three-time EIWA champion and a three-time All-American (2nd, 2nd , 3rd) while missing the 2001 post-season due to a detached and torn retinae that he received in February. That year, as a red-shirt freshman, he owned wins against the 2001 NCAA 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th place winners.

 

Despite the eye injuries which dictated the use of protective goggles, the variety of his major tournaments won ranks 2nd  in Lehigh history: including Midlands, EIWA, Las Vegas, both Greco and Freestyle at Junior Nationals, the Junior World Team Trials and also a University Nationals title. Jon is Lehigh’s only two-time undergrad Midlands champion. He placed 5th in the 2004 USA Freestyle Olympic Trials.

 

The saga of his senior year in 2004-05 was converted into a popular documentary, entitled: “Veritas: The Story of Jon Trenge.”

 

Jon received his B.S. degree from Lehigh in Environmental Science and his Masters’ degree in Education. He currently teaches Earth and Space Science at Parkland High School and is their assistant wrestling coach. He also serves as an assistant coach at the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club.
