*RUDY ASHMAN, Lehigh ‘37 was Lehigh’s first three-time EIWA champion with a 30-2 career mark and 17 falls. He competed at 118 and 126 and pinned six of nine in the championships. His first fall was in 0:12 in the ‘two-second’ fall era. Ashman lost one career dual – to Willard Duffy, a two-time NCAA runner-up for 3^rd place Indiana.  At the 1936 Nationals, Ashman beat Anderson, Central Oklahoma, in round one before withdrawing with injury. Anderson won the title under the Olympic black mark system; his team placed second. Rudy’s other career loss came in the 1935 Nationals to 3^rd placer, Ledbetter, Illinois, which finished third.

      An undefeated senior captain senior, Ashman’s two prior teams placed fifth nationally but he missed his senior NCAAs.  Rudy finished 20-1 in duals and won his last 16 bouts, 10 by fall. Born in Missouri, Ashman attended Bethlehem’s Liberty High and retired as superintendent of the ingot mold division at Bethlehem Steel after 40 years’ service. He passed away in 2006 at age 94.
