Clyde Frantz
Clyde Frantz
Year: '71
Team: Penn State

CLYDE FRANTZ, Penn State ’71 was a three-time EIWA champion, twice Outstanding Wrestler, a team captain and a sophomore NCAA third. His career record was 49-7-2 and 27-2-2 in duals. Rich Lorenzo called Clyde “one in the top three wrestlers I ever coached.” That he ‘failed’ to repeat nationally is explained by the rules of the day: Frantz lost in the quarters to future Hall of Famer: Stan Dziedzic (NCAA 3,1,2, World champion) and Carl Adams (NCAA 1, 1) . Dziedzic lost in the semis, Clyde was eliminated. After his lost to Adams he lost his next match in the consolations and was eliminated.  In his last two years, PSU was undefeated (21-0).
Frantz married Barbara Shedd '71 and earned a Temple degree in Physical Therapy. He worked at Temple Hospital, then for a private company based in Texas. Clyde opened five hospital contracted physical therapy departments (in TX, PA, NC, TN, NM) in one year before settling in Albuquerque. He left the firm in 1980 to start his own physical therapy company (New Mexico Physical Therapists, Inc). He grew the organization (max: 65 employees) for eleven years, then sold it to NovaCare. He retired in 1995 and returned to PA with his wife and son.
