       JOHNNY JOHNSTON, Penn St ‘58 hailed from Clearfield, PA where he won the PIAA title in 1952. At Penn State he was a 3-time EIWA titlist who won a National title as a junior, before placing third. His career record was a 43-4-0 and 23-2 in dual losses, both by one point to Pitt 3-time NCAA titlist, Ed Peery.

      Johnston coached at Steven’s Trade for six years, for teams that went 49-9-1. He then led Princeton Wrestling for 29 years with a record of 382-199-9, coaching 10 Ivy League team champions and Princeton’s 1st EIWA team title in 67 years.  John had extensive roles in Athletics, eventually Assistant AD. He officiated college dual and tournaments (including NCAAs), was NWCA President and was chairman of the NCAA Wrestling Sports Committee. He continues his involvement in wrestling working with the NCAA in their Drug Testing Programs. He was a partner in the popular Pocono Sports Camps. Married over 40 years to wife, Patty, Johnny continues to work a small farm and play golf extensively.
