*NATHANIEL PENDLETON, Columbia ‘16 was a powerful, handsome athlete who went to Hollywood fame. He won two EIWA titles at 175 pounds in 1914 and 1915. After graduation, he won a National AAU Championship for the NYAC, then Columbia’s only Olympic medalist with a silver in 1920.
      He then quickly succeeded by appearing in nearly 100 films by first utilizing his physique. When sound replaced silence, Nat was in demand for his Brooklyn accent and comic portrayals, often a comic foil for stars like the Marx Brothers and Abbott and Costello. He had key roles as Detective Guild in The Thin Man and as  ambulance driver Joe Wayman in the Dr. Kildare/Dr. Gillespie films of the 1930’s. Pendleton had the lead in Top Sergeant Mulligan and played a wrestler in Deception, which he wrote. Born in 1895, Pendleton was married to Margaret E.  Carse. He died in 1967 in San Diego.
