*GLENN STAFFORD, Cornell
’30 was the only wrestler from the East
in the first three Nationals to earn an NCAA title, winning at 175
as a senior in 1929. He won two EIWA title -- at heavyweight
in 1928 and at 175 in 1929, also placing second at 175 as
sophomore. Glenn owned a dual mark of 15-1 during a
three-year varsity career and was unbeaten his last two seasons,
with an overall 26-2 record. Glenn added a National AAU title
in 1929.
Stafford died in 1971 after a
teaching career in Cortland County, plus serving as a professional
wrestler, director of the Works Progress Administration in NYC and
a decade with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the
U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and in 1981 was inducted
into Cornell’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
