BOBBY WEAVER, Lehigh ‘83  the only Lehigh athlete ever to win an Olympic medal; pinned all three opponents to earn Gold at 105.5 at the 1984 LA Games. He was a rare USA wrestler with a career winning record against Soviet rivals. At age 17 he was an Olympic alternate and earned a berth in 1980 before the American boycott. In freestyle Bobby won four National AAU titles, two World Cups and placed 2nd and 5th at World Championships. 

      A three-time PA State champion, Bobby was considered “too small” to excel in college. Yet he won 79% of all bouts to become one of Lehigh’s all-time Top 50 in win percentage and won two EIWA titles in three entries. The sole loss was vs 4-time EIWA champion, Gene Mills, in the 1^st-ever bout between Olympic teammates. Weaver placed 3rd at the 1982 NCAAs and owned two wins over national champions. He and wife, Lori, raised two children in Easton, PA and Bobby teaches at Phillipsburg (NJ) high school while coaching wrestling.
