      *DOUG ZEMBIEC, Navy ‘95 was an EIWA runner-up before winning two league titles for the Academy. His coach, Reginald Wicks, called Doug "the best-conditioned athlete I’ve ever been around."  Zembiac also became an All-American by placing 8th at 177 in the 1995 NCAA s. He later served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1995 until killed in action in Iraq in 2007.

      Among his military honors include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and he served combat tours in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo. In 2008 Zembiec also received the NCAA’s Award of Valor and the same year Gen. David Petreus dedicated the Helipad at Camp Victory in Baghad in Doug’s name. In 2009, a petition was presented to the Secretary of the Navy to name a destroyer vessel named after him. In 2011, the Marine Corps created the Douglas A. Zembiac Award for Outstanding Leadership in Special Operations.
