Kolodzik, Schleifer Post Perfect Days For Princeton, Which Goes 1-2 At Nebraska Duals

December 03, 2016 | Wrestling

Princeton's nationally ranked duo of Matthew Kolodzik (fourth, 141) and Jonathan Schleifer (16th, 174) completed perfect days Saturday with victories over ranked opponents from Nebraska, but those victories weren't enough to give the 25th-ranked Tigers a winning day at the Nebraska Duals. After splitting a pair against Drexel (L, 17-15) and Michigan State (W, 25-15), Princeton fell 27-6 to the seventh-ranked Cornhuskers.

Kolodzik improved to 10-0 during his freshman season with a trio of wins, including an 8-6 sudden-victory win over 11th-ranked Colton McCrystal of Nebraska. That was one of two ranked victories for Kolodzik; earlier in the day, he teched 14th-ranked Javier Gasca 16-0 during the Tigers win over Michigan State. Schleifer moved to 9-1 with his three wins, including an impressive 6-0 victory over 17th-ranked Micah Barnes of Nebraska. Those two split a pair of matches last season, including a 1-0 Schleifer win in the Midlands semifinals. The two-time NCAA qualifier continued to limit Barnes' offense to remain unbeaten in dual matches this season.

The highlight win in the morning came from another two-time NCAA qualifier, Jordan Laster. The 18th-ranked Tiger senior took down one of the two EIWA wrestlers ranked above him in the latest national poll, Matthew Cimato (11th, Drexel). Laster claimed a 5-3 win to even that match at 6-6, but Drexel won three of the next four, including two by major decision, to gain its eventual margin of victory.

Princeton will wrestle twice this coming weekend, beginning with a Friday night showdown at Lehigh. The Tigers will make their 2016-17 home debut Saturday at 1 pm against Binghamton.
