FAIRFAX, Va. - The first two wins of the season came on the same day for American University wrestling, as the Eagles came out on top in a pair of neutral-site duals hosted by George Mason. AU edged Clarion in the final bout, 21-18, before rolling to a 35-12 win over Millersville. Maximilian Leete, Cael McIntyre and Will Jarrell all won bouts in both duals.

Notable

• #16 Jack Maida improved to 6-0 for the season at 125 pounds with a 4-1 win over Clarion's Joey Fischer to start the first dual of the day.
• Leete, who was third in the NCAA in pins last season, pinned both of his opponents at 133 pounds. He took down Clarion's Scott Johnson near the end of the second period in the first dual, and took just 44 seconds to pin Millersville's Devin Flannery in the second dual.
• McIntyre, a freshman, started both matches at 141 and earned decisions against David McClelland of Clarion (5-4) and Aidan Micheli of Millersville (7-2).
• The Eagles were up 12-0 after McIntyre's win, but down 18-12 after seven bouts. 
• Connor Bourne scored a huge victory over #31 Cameron Pine of Clarion at 184 pounds, holding off Pine at the end to win 4-3.
• Needing a win to tie it up, Carsten Rawls did just that with a 4-1 victory over Ethan Wiant of Clarion. Rawls tied it 1-1 with an escape early in the third, and scored a late takedown for the 4-1 decision.
• With the teams tied up 18-18, Jarrell defeated #31-ranked John Meyers in a crucial bout, getting a third-period takedown and riding time for a 5-1 win and securing the 18-15 team victory.
• American won seven bouts in its second dual against Millersville.
• Shamil Kalmatov (125) and Leete started it off with back-to-back pins, as Kalmatov broke a late 9-9 tie with a two-point reversal and then got the fall with 10 seconds left in the third.
• Leete's 44-second pin gave AU a 12-0 lead, and McIntyre made it 15-0 with his 7-2 decision at 141 pounds.
• Freshman Kaden Milheim earned a crucial riding time point for a 7-6 win at 157 pounds over Jonathan Parilla.
• The Eagles got two more pins from Lucas White at 174 pounds (1:12) and Liam Volk-Klos at 197 pounds (2:30).
• Finally, Jarrell scored a tech fall over Millersville's Bishop McCoy for the final score of 35-12.
