Hofstra Completes 2-0 Weekend With Win At George Mason

Fairfax, VA - Nikolas Miller won by injury default at 197 pounds to give the Pride a 22-15 lead as Hofstra completed a 2-0 weekend with a 25-15 victory over George Mason Sunday.

The Pride upped its record to 5-3 with the win, while the Patriots slipped to 9-5 and saw their three-match win streak halted.

Hofstra jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a decision win by Dylan Acevedo-Switzer at 125 pounds and a major decision by Dylan Ryder at 133. The Patriots picked up a win at 141 to make it 7-3 before Noah Tapia won by fall at 149 to give the Pride a 13-3 advantage. Tapia trailed 10-1 before scoring the takedown and pin.

George Mason would pull within four, 13-9, with a pair of decisions at 157 and 165 pounds. However, Ross McFarland scored a 6-0 decision win at 174 pounds to push the Pride's advantage back to seven (16-9).

The Patriots made it more interesting with a win by fall at 184 pounds to cut their deficit to one. But Miller took down Tyler Kocak at the 45 second mark of their 197 pound match with Kocak unable to continue. The six points allowed Hofstra to seal the victory and Keaton Kluever picked up a 4-1 win in sudden victory over Chad Nix to close out the match.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 14-1 all-time against George Mason.
-Ryder's win was the 50th of his career.
-Tapia has won seven matches in a row.
-McFarland has won five consecutive matches.
