Dragons Secure Two EIWA Victories Against Hofstra and LIU

PHILADELPHIA – The Dragons secured two commanding victories over EIWA opponents on Saturday afternoon, beating Hofstra 27-13 and LIU 30-6. The pair of wins boosted Drexel to a 5-6 overall record and 4-2 in conference matchups. DU had eight wrestlers post a winning record on the day.

Mickey O'Malley opened the day at 174lbs in both matches, setting the pace for Drexel's heavy offensive attack. The redshirt junior completed a perfect start to the day with his ninth victory by fall against Hofstra.

The Pride tried to take control with an edge at 184lbs, 197lbs and 285lbs, but the Dragons dominated the remaining bouts, securing six straight victories from 125lbs-165lbs. Kyle Waterman led the charge with his third major decision victory of the season, followed by two decision victories from Jaxon Maroney and Jared Donahue.

Tyler Williams gave the Dragons the advantage they needed to secure a win, opening the scoring to an eight-point lead. Parker Kropman (14-5) and Evan Barczak (17-6) closed things out with a pair of wins for a 27-13 finish.

O'Malley improved to a perfect 2-0 on the day with a 5-2 decision against LIU's Ryan Ferro. The veteran at 174lbs remained undefeated against EIWA opponents, improving to 5-0. McLaughlin also secured a victory against the Sharks, battling to a 1-1 record on the day.

LIU added its first points of the day with strength in the heavyweights, tying the score at six. Antonio Mininno broke the stalemate between the two with a key victory at 125lbs.

Maroney captured a new season best fall time at 133lbs, taking down LIU's Kaelen Francois in 1:39. LIU took a forfeit at 141lbs, allowing the Dragons a 21-6 advantage with three matches to follow.

Drexel followed through with three straight victories to close out the match, including a fourth EIWA win for both Kropman and Barczak.
