Wrestling Defeats West Liberty, 42-3 in the Dragon Duals

PHILADELPHIA - Six Dragons won their bouts by bonus points in a 42-3 rout of the Hilltoppers for their first dual victory of the season, in the Dragon Duals on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Soriano, #31 Cody Walsh, and Dom Findora were undefeated on the day with two and three wins, respectively. Desmond Pleasant, John Hildebrandt, Gabe Onorato, Soriano, Findora, Tyler Williams, Walsh, Jack Janda, Ibrahim Ameer, Dom Petracci, and Santino Morina earned at least one win. 

The Trojans were victorious in the first matches at 125 and 133 pounds. Jordan Soriano claimed Drexel's first decision by two takedowns and a reversal in the second period. Dom Findora dominated to a major decision victory only giving up an escape point in the 10-1 rout. Little Rock took the next weight class. After a scoreless first period, Walsh picked up three near-fall points and a reversal in the next frame to lead him to a 7-3 decision. The Trojans earned bonus points wins at 174-197. In the final bout, Morina fought to earn a pair of escape points but fell 4-2 after he ran out of time to even the match. 

Pleasant avenged his loss to Little Rock and defeated Crane by technical fall (21-5) in 5:41. John Hildebrandt earned the nod at 133lbs for his second career dual start. After being down by one after two periods, the redshirt freshman scored a takedown late in the final frame and held on to win his first dual, 3-2. Gabe Onorato took down Grace of West Liberty 32 seconds in the contest and never relinquished the lead as he was triumphant, 7-3. At 149lbs, Findora picked up his ninth victory of the season by technical fall. The redshirt freshman picked up nine near-fall points in the bout. Tyler Williams extended Drexel's lead to 21-0 after he was awarded a takedown and ten near fall points in a 15-0 technical fall. Jack Janda and Cody Walsh pinned their opponents in back-to-back matches. The Hilltoppers won by decision at 184lbs. Ibrahim Ameer recorded DU's third fall of the contest, midway through the first period. Dom Petracci closed out the match with his first career dual victory in a 9-2 decision. 

In Drexel's final dual, Clarion won the first two weight classes to take a 6-0 lead. Soriano and Findora collected back-to-back decisions by technical fall to give the Dragons a 10-6 advantage. The Golden Eagles claimed 157lbs and took an 11-10 lead. Cody Walsh closed a successful day with his third bonus point victory and took back the advantage, 14-11. Jasiah Queen and Justin Griffith fell in their matches, Clarion went up 24-11 but was deducted a point following the 184lb match for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ameer started the third period down 3-2. The junior recorded a takedown for a one-point lead, Wiant earned an escape point and claimed a 6-5 decision with a riding time point. Morina started the final match of the Dragon duals at heavyweight. Each wrestler escaped at the start of the second and third periods. In sudden victory, Morina ended the day with an exclamation point for Drexel with a huge takedown and was victorious, 4-1.
