BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU wrestling team took Bucknell down to the wire on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the Bison prevailed, 25-11, at Pratt Recreation Center.
Robbie Sagaris at 125 pounds and
Devin Matthews at 141 pounds won by decision to stake the Sharks to an early 6-3 lead.
After Bucknell answered with a pair of wins,
James Johnston responded with a technical fall victory over Miles Bassett at 165 pounds to give LIU an 11-9 advantage.
With LIU trailing 13-11 on the scoreboard,
Anthony D'Alesio took Mikey Bartush to overtime at 184 pounds before falling, 7-4.
And after
John Dusza then narrowly lost to Logan Deacetis at 197 pounds, 10-8, and the competition was decided, LIU forfeited at heavyweight to account for the final score.
The Sharks return to action next Sunday when they face Morgan State, Kent State and host Clarion in Pennsylvania.
