Drexel Battles Against the Big Ten at the Garden State Grapple

NEWARK, N.J –  Drexel battled against Big Ten foes Indiana and No. 19 Rutgers but were defeated in both duals at the Garden State Grapple on Sunday. The Dragons fought for six wins on the day but were downed 29-6 to the Hoosiers and 26-13 to the Scarlet Knights. 

No. 24 Evan Barczak led the team with a pair of wins against tough opponents. The graduate student moved to 10-2 overall this season. Additionally, Brian Bonino picked up a victory for the Dragons.
 
Against Indiana:
The Hoosiers won the first five matches at 125-157. At 165,  Barczak put Drexel on the board with a 6-4 sudden victory as he took down South in sudden victory. Cody Walsh tried to keep the momentum towards DU as he started off strong taking a 6-0 at the end of the first period. As time expired in regulation, the score was tied at ten but Washington (IU) was awarded a riding time point to defeat Walsh 11-10. Brian Bonino dominated his match at 184 and won by decision 6-1. Indiana bounced back to win at 197. In the final match at heavyweight, Santino Morina gave it his all but was defeated 3-1 after a takedown by Bullock in sudden victory.

Against Rutgers:
After a tough loss against the Hoosiers, Mininno tried to start Drexel off strong but could not prevail as Rutgers won their first four matches. DU bounced back to win a pair of matches at 157 and 165. Freshman Dom D'Agostino stepped up against DeSantis in a tight match to claim a 7-6 victory. Barczak took care of business defeating O'Neill 7-1. Veteran Cody Walsh, picked up an important win for the Dragons in a 12-2 major decision. These decisions cut RU's lead to 17-10 but Rutgers claimed the next match at 184. Sean O'Malley fought his way to victory after being awarded a takedown and escape. The Scarlet Knights closed out the dual with a triumph at heavyweight.
