Wrestling Taken Down at No. 6 Michigan

Ogunsanya earns win, but Wolverines come up with 38-6 triumph

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Columbia wrestling wrapped up its Midwest swing against the No. 6 team in the land, falling to Michigan 38-6 Sunday afternoon at Cliff Keen Arena. Junior Joshua Ogunsanya picked up a big win at 165 for the Lions.

"We needed to come out of the gates to set a tone earlier in these types of matches and it just didn't happen today," Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Zach Tanelli said. "Michigan was really aggressive and looking to pick up points early today and it paid off for them. They are ranked as high as they are for a reason, but I also think we can be better."

Ogunsanya's match with Zack Mattin was the first after the intermission and the 10th-ranked wrestler took an early lead and finished things off with a pin at the 4:13 mark to give the Lions' their first win of the match.

"People wrestle strategically against Joshua and he's a guy that is committed to his style and doesn't allow the environment or circumstance to interfere with what his plan is," Tanelli noted. "He put a guy on his back and put him away and that's what we talk about all the time. That was a big win for him."

Lennox Wolak was looking to build on his win at Ohio State Friday, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and held that cushion until a comeback in the third by Joseph Walker in the 174 division. Javen Jovero also had a strong showing at 197, and it took a spin out of a flurry for Brendin Yatoooma to claim a slim 4-3 win.

Columbia will take next weekend off before the Cliff Keen Invitation, a two-day event being held on December 2-3.
