Dragons Fall in Close Bout against American on Senior Day, 19-17

PHILADELPHIA - The Dragons were down by eight team points with two matches to go but were not able to complete their comeback as they fell to American 19-17 on Senior Day in the DAC on Sunday afternoon. Drexel finishes the season at 10-8 and 6-3 against the EIWA.

The Dragons honored Evan Barczak, Sean O'Malley, Antonio Mininno, Joseph Timm, Riley Onorato, Michael Martinak, Brian Bonino, Josh Stillings, and manager Alexis Melson.

Luke Nichter, Tyler Williams, Evan Barczak, Kyle Waterman, and Jordan Soriano claimed victories for the Dragons. 

The matchup started at 149 as Nichter dominated in an 11-3 major decision for the Dragons. In the second match, Williams and Nies entered the third period tied at 4. After an Eagles takedown, Williams found an escape and was not able to be taken down as he held on to an 8-6 decision. Barczak earned Drexel's third consecutive win in an 11-3 major decision at 165. 

AU was triumphant at 174 as the team score stood 11-4 in favor of DU. Stillings earned an escape point but was not able to score in short time and fell 2-1. American took the lead after three wins at 184-125. At 133, Waterman found a reversal with under five seconds to advance the match to sudden victory. The junior earned a takedown in overtime which cut AU's lead to 19-14 with one matchup to go. Jordan Soriano almost earned the fall to clinch the match for the Dragons but only received near-fall points in an 8-1 victory.
