The Navy wrestling team (3-2, 1-1 EIWA) earned a dominating 32-7 victory over Cleveland State (7-5) Sunday afternoon at Woodling Gymnasium, closing out a successful trip to the state of Ohio with a pair of dual victories (def Ohio 21-14). The Mids never trailed in a dual that saw them win eight of the 10 bouts and earn bonus points in five matches.

The Highlights
• Navy used its fifth different lineup in as many duals this season.
• Navy won the first three bouts of the afternoon to take a 13-0 lead that it would not relinquish.
• Though Cleveland State would win two of the next three (149, 165), the 10-point margin (17-7) would be as close as the Vikings could get as Navy closed out the dual by winning the final four matches.
• The Mids earned bonus points in five matches - major dec by Josh Koderhandt (Fr / 133 / Belleville, Ill.), Andrew Cerniglia (So / Nazareth, Pa.) and Jacob Koser (Jr / 197 / Dillsburg, Pa.), tech fall by David Key (So / 184 / Norcross, Ga.) and forfeit in favor of Tyler Hunt (So / 141 / Calhoun, Ga.) .
• Six bouts featured ranked wrestlers with the ranked wrestler winning all six matches (Navy - #21 Koderhandt / 133, #20 Cerniglia / 157, #33 David Key / 184, #27 Jacob Koser / 197 ... Cleveland State - #32 Marcus Robinson / 149, #33 Riley Smucker / 165).
• Joey Caprella (Cleveland State) and Chase Caprella (So / 149 / Bluffton, Ohio) met in an extra match following the dual. Joey Caprella got the best of his former teammate in sudden victory, 3-1.
• Additionally, Riley Smith (Sr / 285 / Mason, Mich.) scored a 6-5 win against Daniel Bucknavich in an exhibition.

Navy Notables
• Four wrestlers - Josh Koderhandt (133), Jonathan Miranda (141/149), Andrew Cerniglia (157) and Jacob Koser (197) - have participated in all five duals for the Mids this season with Koderhandt, Cerniglia and Koser posting 4-1 records.
• Navy has had at least two freshmen in its lineup in four of the five duals this season and three freshmen in three of the five duals - Lehigh (133 Koderhandt, 285 Catka), Hofstra (125 DelViscio, 133 Koderhandt, 174 Crebs), Ohio (133 Koderhandt, 165 Sammy Starr, 174 Cael Crebs, 285 Ryan Catka), Cleveland State (133 Koderhandt, 165 Sammy Starr, 174 Cael Crebs).
• Grady Griess' (So / 285 / Grand Island, Neb.) 7-3 victory over John Kelbly marked his first-collegiate dual win in just his second appearance.
• After dropping his first dual of the season, Jacob Koser has won each of his last four duals and stands 18-6 all-time in dual competition.
• Team captain Jacob Allen (Sr / 125 / Poway, Calif.) is closing in on 50-career victories after posting a 3-1 win over Cleveland State's Logan Heil. Allen stands 47-36 over four seasons.

The Series
• Sunday's dual victory by Navy leveled the series against Cleveland State, as both teams have three wins apiece.
• The Vikings won the first three meetings (1977-78-79) in the series, while Navy has now won each of the last three (1996-2021-22).
• Sunday's dual marked just the second time Navy has wrestled at Cleveland State (23-9 win // Jan. 13, 1996), as the Mids are now 2-0 in Cleveland.

A Look Ahead
• Navy will wrestle its final road duals of the 2021-22 campaign next weekend when it travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to face Columbia (1:00 pm) and Cornell (5:00 pm) on Saturday before closing out the weekend with a 2:00 pm dual at Binghamton on Sunday.
