RALEIGH, N.C. — The No. 9 Cornell wrestling team had its six-dual win streak snapped Friday night, falling 24-9 to the No. 8 North Carolina State Wolfpack at James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum. The Big Red dropped to 10-4 on the season. 

North Carolina State raced out to a 15-0 with four consecutive wins to start the dual. No. 23 Jakob Camacho took down No. 15 Brett Ungar 5-1 by decision (125 pounds); No. 5 Kai Orine beat Ethan Qureshi 15-0 by technical fall (133); No. 4 Ryan Jack defeated Josh Saunders 7-4 by decision (141); and No. 4 Jackson Arrington won 12-2 by major decision over No. 20 Ethan Fernandez (149). 

While the Big Red responded with three straight decisions from No. 7 Meyer Shapiro over No. 14 Ed Scott (157), No. 3 Julian Ramirez over AJ Kovacs (165) and Benny Baker over No. 31 Alex Faison (174), the early hole was too much to overcome. The Wolfpack closed the meet with three consecutive wins, securing its second straight win over Cornell. 

Cornell Notes 

• Baker ended his nine-match losing streak with arguably his best win of the season, sealing it with a takedown in the third period. It was his second dual-match win of the season (his first came in November against Sacred Heart). 

• Faison is the second-highest-ranked opponent Baker has beaten this season. He beat No. 29 Jared Simma (Northern Iowa) at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite in December. 

• Shapiro added another marquee win to his growing collection of them with his 7-2 decision over Scott, a 2023 All-American. 

• Shapiro has now beaten three NCAA All-Americans: Bryce Andonian (Virginia Tech, twice), Brock Mauller (Missouri) and Scott. He also has wins over ranked foes Paddy Gallagher (Ohio State), Max Birgnola (Lehigh), Matty Bianchi (Little Rock) and Lucas Revano (Penn). 

• Shapiro improved to 18-2 overall and 13-0 in duals with the victory. He has won his last 13 matches.
