Bearcats defeat Drexel 19-15, nearly shut out Buffalo 31-3

VESTAL, N.Y. – In its first meets on campus season, the Binghamton wrestling team defended its home mat successfully by defeating Drexel 19-15 and Buffalo 31-3 Saturday at the Events Center.

"To come out here and perform like we did tonight was really incredible," said Binghamton Head Coach Kyle Borshoff. "We wrestled better in our second match once we were a bit warmed up, and I thought the effort out of the team generally was great."

Highlights
  • Binghamton's four ranked wrestlers each went 2-0 throughout the night. No. 13 Jacob Nolan earned a technical fall and a major decision, No. 7 Lou DePrez had a technical fall, and both Brevin Cassella and Cory Day recorded a major decision.
  • In only his second collegiate dual, Caleb Sweet upset No. 33 Kaleb Burgess of Buffalo in a 2-1 decision. DePrez also won a ranked match by defeating No. 31 Sam Mitchell of Buffalo 8-2.
  • Nate Lucier fought Buffalo's Caleb Brooks to the fourth tiebreaker, before winning the match 2-1.
  • By winning nine out of 10 matches against Buffalo, this is the first time this season that the Bearcats have won that many matches in a dual. The last time Binghamton won at least nine matches in a dual was back on Nov. 7, 2021, when the Bearcats won all 10 and shut out New Jersey City University 53-0.
