Wrestling Drops Back-and-Forth Match to Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown and Harvard wrestling went back-and-forth all night and it took until the final match to decide a winner at Pizzitola Sports Center as the Crimson came out on top, 23-17.
The match started at 149 pounds with Harvard winning by technical fall for a quick 5-0 lead. Junior Blake Saito then secured the only pin of the night in 4:12 at 157 pounds to give the Bears a 6-5 advantage. Junior Keegan Rothrock kept it going at 165 pounds with a 7-3 decision with a pair of takedowns to make it a 9-6 Brown advantage.
Harvard then won at 174 (MD 10-2), 184 pounds (DEC 2-1), and 197 pounds (DEC 4-1) to put the Crimson up, 15-9.
Sophomores Alex Semenenko (285) Michael Joyce (125) then secured back-to-back major decisions, with Semenenko winning 12-2 and Joyce taking his match 13-2, to propel Brown to a 17-15 match lead.
Brown dropped the 133 pound match by decision and Harvard went on top, 18-17, heading to the 141 match. The Crimson took control with a 17-1 technical fall to secure the victory.
UP NEXT
Brown hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday at 3 p.m. for senior day. The Bears will honor Justin Bierdumpfel, Lear Quinton and Shane Hanson-Ashworth.
