WASHINGTON - One win and a few close losses provided some excitement for fans of American University wrestling, but No. 12 Rutgers (9-0) proved its power with a decisive team victory against AU in Bender Arena on Friday night. The Eagles (0-4) will be back in action at home on Sunday to face Duke and Hofstra.

Notable

• The highlight of the match for American was the performance of freshman Jack Maida (133) who scored a 6-2 decision over Devon Britton.
• Maida's takedown midway through the second put him in the lead, 3-2, and he got another takedown in the third period along with a riding time point.
• Sophomore Andy Fallon (125) got near fall points to tie up his bout at 4-4 in the third period, but a final escape for #23 Dylan Shawver gave him the 5-4 victory.
• The Eagles suffered another one-point loss at 165 pounds as redshirt junior Tim Fitzpatrick was tied 3-3 against Andrew Clark but lost 4-3 on riding time.
• Redshirt senior Colin Shannon made an impressive comeback attempt in his match against Connor O'Neill with seven third-period points, but Shannon ultimately lost 10-7.
• Of the Eagles' nine losses, six were to wrestlers ranked in the top 25 by Intermat.
