Clearie Wins at 174 Against North Carolina

1/14/2023 8:09:00 PM | Wrestling

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Drew Clearie came away with a major decision (15-4) at 174 pounds against Gino Esposito of North Carolina Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

It was Clearie's second win against a Power Five opponent this season and his second major decision victory of the year.

"I felt pretty good going out there," said Clearie. "I think the team had a lot of improvement overall and we are improving week-by-week. There are still a good amount of things that we need to work on and we have to take pride in those small steps for what we're working for toward the end of the year. It was a fun experience and we're looking forward to getting back in the wrestling room and fixing the small things."

"North Carolina looked great tonight," said Head Coach Jordan Leen. "Their staff has them at their best moving into the second half of the season like they typically do. We lost a couple close ones that sting, but it was great to see Drew Clearie get us on the board with another win at home."

Brown hosts nationally-ranked Cornell on Saturday at 12 p.m.
