OSU Holds Drexel Scoreless In First Home Match

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Dragons battled against a dominant nationally ranked Oklahoma State team, but the Cowboys came up victorious 45-0. OSU was individually ranked from 125-285, taking home wins in all 10 bouts. With three matches under its belt, Drexel moves to 1-2 overall heading into another pair of duals next weekend.
The Dragons found themselves at a deficit early with a loss at 125lbs. Kyle Waterman battled through a tough matchup against Trevor Mastrogiovanni, allowing him no more than a two-point lead through three periods.
Freshman Deon Pleasant fired right away against a powerful veteran in No. 2 Daton Fix but struggled to find his momentum. Fix took a fall victory in the second period, opening the Cowboys lead to nine. OSU followed suit with three straight wins at 141lbs, 149lbs and 157lbs putting the Dragons at a 23-point disadvantage.
At 165lbs, Evan Barczak bounced back from a 5-0 hole for three points in the third, but Wittlake grabbed several late points to secure OSU's sixth victory. Undefeated Mickey O'Malley (9-0) and Dustin Plott (2-0) battled for points early, holding each other scoreless through one. Despite picking up two points in the second, Plott gained an advantage in the final seconds for a victory at 174lbs.
The Cowboys continued the momentum through the final three bouts, taking home technical fall victories from 184-285.
The Dragons are back in action next weekend as they head to College Park, MD for a pair of duals with Maryland and Duke on Saturday, Dec. 4.
