Wrestling Handed Home-Opening Loss to No. 14 Minnesota, 37-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell played host to No. 14 Minnesota for its home opener in Davis Gym Thursday evening, and the Golden Gophers pulled out a 37-3 victory. Minnesota bookended the match with two pins and registered two major decisions and a tech fall with all six of its ranked wrestlers in the lineup grabbing wins. Scoring three points for the Bison was freshman No. 31 Noah Mulvaney with a come-from-behind 11-5 decision at 165 pounds.

Mulvaney found himself trailing 4-1 until late in the second when he registered a takedown with 13 seconds to go in the period to tie it up. He added two more takedowns in the third, outscoring redshirt-sophomore Blaine Brenner 10-1 down the stretch to earn his eighth win of the season.

The Bison also put forth strong showings at 149 and 285 pounds. No. 33 Dylan Chappell went head to head with No. 18 Drew Roberts and appeared to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period before the takedown was waived off. Chappell posted an escape with 10 seconds left in the third period to even the score at 1-1, but he was unable to make a final move, and Roberts took the 2-1 decision with 1:33 of riding time.

Crosby sat tied with Bennett Tabor at 2-2 after seven minutes of action, but the Gopher wound up pinning Crosby in the final bout of the evening.

Logan Deacetis also held an early 3-0 lead over No. 19 Garrett Joles and remained in front into the second period, but Joles used a pair of reversals and a late takedown to win 8-3at 197 pounds.

Up next, Bucknell heads to Owings Mills, Md. on Saturday for the Navy Classic. The tournament is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
