ALBANY, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team opened its 2023-24 season by splitting a pair of duals at Journeymen Wrestling's Armbar at the Armory Friday at Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, N.Y. Binghamton began the night with a 35-9 loss to No. 2 NC State, before defeating EIWA rival LIU 31-7.
 
"I liked the effort that I saw in a lot of our matches," said Binghamton Head Coach Kyle Borshoff. "We have things to work on. Overall, as a program, I'm very happy."
 
Highlights

• Cory Day picked up a pin in both of his matches during the night. He first pinned NC State's Chase Horne, followed by LIU's Aeden Begue. The pin against Begue happened 58 seconds into the match.
• Brevin Cassella also won both of his matches. He first earned a 4-2 decision over Derek Fields. In the second dual against LIU, Cassella shut out James Johnston with a 15-0 technical fall.
• Freshman Carson Wagner secured his first collegiate win with a 20-2 technical fall over LIU's Robbie Sagaris.
• Jacob Nolan, Micah Roes, Michael Zarif, Carter Baer, and Dimitri Gamkrelidze each picked up their first win of the season.
