2/10/2024 6:02:00 PM

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Aidan O'Shea captured the 133 lb. weight class at the Messiah Open to highlight 10 place winners at the event for the Diplomats on Saturday afternoon. Sending 17 wrestlers to the tournament, the Diplomats won 45 matches – including 35 by bonus points throughout the tournament. Those totals included 16 pins, 10 technical falls, and and two major decisions.

F&M Place Winners

Ranked as the No. 8 red-shirt at his weight class and wrestling unattached on Saturday, O'Shea put up bonus points during four of his five victories. He capped his tournament with a third period rally against Drexel's Kyle Waterman. O'Shea was trailing 3-2 heading into the final period, but got a three point near fall and earned the riding time during a dominant final two minutes. That result came after he had a pin, two technical falls, and major decision to advance to the finals.

Bryce Kresho made the finals at 149 lbs. courtesy of his own third period rally against an EIWA foe. Trailing Columbia's Karl Monaco, the F&M sophomore got two take downs in the third period and before finally planting his opponent to the mat in 6:09. Kresho finished his day with two pins and technical fall before dropping a 4-3 decision to Penn's Sean Seefeldt during the championship bout.

Jack Parker (125 lbs.; unattached) and Josh Palmucci (165 lbs.) both advanced to the semifinals of their weights before wrestling back for third. Parker went 5-1 on the day with two pins and technical fall before a thrilling 13-12 decision to clinch third place. Palmucci registered all five of his victories on the day via bonus points as he racked up three falls, one technical fall, and a medical forfeit.

Nick Alvarez (fifth; 174 lbs.), Tyler Shea (sixth; 157 lbs.), Jake Allred (sixth; 184 lbs.), Noah Bash (seventh; 174 lbs.) Brandt Fajerman (eighth; 141 lbs.), and Quincy Long (285 lbs.) were additionally among the Diplomats to find their way to the podium. Wrestling unattached, Alvarez started his day with a technical fall before earning a major decision and medical forfeit among his bonus point wins. Only the match limit held up Shea in the wrestle backs as he went 5-1 and secured three falls, one injury default, and one major decision throughout his tournament before his seventh match of the day stopped his run during the consolation semfinals. Allred started his tournament with a pin and advanced to the semifinals at 184 lbs. before finishing in sixth place.

Bash capped his day with his second fall to finish seventh at 174 lbs. Each of his three victories came by bonus points during the tournament. A football player in the fall, Long earned his first collegiate victory via medical forfeit but needed just one more match to secure an 11-6 decision victory during his run of three consecutive victories to his eighth-place finish. Brandt Fajerman also took eighth at 141 lbs. He was 4-1 after five matches with three technical falls and one pin before having to medically forfeit out of the tournament.

Wrestling returns to dual meet action this coming week as the Diplomats head to local rival Millersville for the Rupp Cup on Friday, February 16 at 7 p.m. before traveling to EIWA foe Drexel (Feb. 17; 6 p.m.) the following day for its final dual of the regular season.
