Columbia Falls 34-3 To No. 4 Michigan

Aaron Ayzerov snagged a win for Columbia Wrestling under the lights on Schiller Court at Levien Gym.

NEW YORK — Despite an opening match win from Aaron Ayzerov, Columbia Wrestling fell to the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines, 34-3, in Columbia's first dual meet of the season Friday night on Schiller Court at Levien Gym.

Columbia falls to 0-1 on the season while Michigan improves to 2-0. Ayzerov's first collegiate dual meet win improves his record to 5-1 to open his campaign.

"We have a long way to go," said Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Zach Tanelli.  "There are a lot of things that we need to improve on, but we are grateful to be exposed because we know what we need to work on so we can build from there.

"In some spots there was an intensity that Michigan brought that we did not answer the call on, which included finishing the periods and being strong on the edge of the mat.  Those are things that I think we can improve on."

HOW IT HAPPENED: In the opening match, Ayzerov opened the action with a comeback win via decision, 8-4, over Michigan's Max Maylor.  Ayzerov had to battle back from a small deficit to start the match, but a few solid takedowns and strong action on top gave the Lion first-year his first dual meet win.

"Aaron found a way to get it done tonight," said Tanelli.  "He was strong on top and had a couple takedowns to help him get the win.  I'm proud of him and how he was able to come back and finish off his win."

The remainder of the matches fell Michigan's way, with the Wolverines collecting five major decisions, one technical fall and a win in sudden victory.  The match did end on a positive note, as Joshua Ogunsanya battled No. 13 Cameron Amine to the finish.

Despite Ogunsanya losing, 3-1, he stayed with Amine throughout and nearly scored a late takedown.  His energy on the mat showed as he nearly drew stalling points from Amine as he held on to win the match.
