
Mountain Hawks Post 29-13 Road Win At Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In its final EIWA dual of the season, No. 23 Lehigh traveled to Bucknell and picked up a 29-13 win over the Bison Friday night at Davis Gym. The Mountain Hawks received a forfeit at 125 and won six of the nine contested bouts, scoring bonus points in three, on the way to their third straight win. Lehigh improves to 5-4 on the dual season and 5-1 against EIWA opponents.
Bucknell (5-9) did not weigh in a wrestler at 125 with the forfeit to junior Sheldon Seymour staking Lehigh to the early 6-0 lead.
First-year Matty Lopes picked up an impressive ranked win, defeating No. 28 Kurt Phipps 3-2 at 133 to give Lehigh a 9-0 lead. Trailing 1-0 in the third period Lopes used a foot sweep to take Phipps down for the decisive points.
The Bison picked up their first win at 141 as No. 20 Dylan Chappell pinned first-year Seamus Mack at 4:47. Mack was subbing for junior Carter Bailey, who was out due to illness.
Senior Malyke Hines helped Lehigh bounce back with a 19-4 technical fall victory over Aiden Davis at 149. Hines led 12-4 late in the second period when he picked up a three point near fall and then a four point near fall to end the match at the 5:00 mark.
First-year Logan Rozynski followed with a 4-3 decision over Cade Wirnsberger at 157. A locked hands point had Rozynski trailing 2-1 in the third period when he scored a takedown on the edge that was awarded after an officials' review. Rozynski defended the one-point lead in the final seconds to give Lehigh a 17-6 lead halfway through.
Bucknell's Noah Mulvaney broke open a 5-4 match with a takedown and four point near fall in the third period to win a 13-4 major decision over first-year Richie Grungo at 165. A 9-4 win for 17th-ranked Myles Takats over sophomore Rylan Rogers at 174 brought the Bison within 17-13 with three bouts remaining.
Sophomore Caden Rogers put Lehigh back on track, defeating Logan Deacetis 6-2 on the strength of two first period takedowns to put Lehigh up 20-13. Senior Michael Beard followed with his ninth technical fall victory of the season, a 21-6 win over Dillon Bechtold, secured at the 5:08 mark.
In the final bout of the night, graduate student Owen Trephan moved to 16-0 on the season with a 21-8 major decision over Logan Shephard at 285.
The Mountain Hawks are back on the road on Thursday when they travel to Penn to face the Quakers at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with audio coverage on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFOXSports.com.
