Drexel Falls in 23-13 Battle With Bucknell

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel wrestling dropped its second conference loss on Sunday afternoon in a tough battle with undefeated Bucknell. The Dragons move to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in EIWA competition.
The Bison took the advantage early with a 7-1 decision at 165lbs. Mickey O'Malley quickly swung the Dragons momentum at 174lbs, taking home his eighth fall of the year over Bucknell's Sam Barnes (7-12). With the victory, O'Malley improves to a 13-2 record.
Bryan McLaughlin added to Drexel's lead shortly after, fighting back from a 4-4 tie in the second period for a 7-4 decision. Bucknell answered back at 197 with a breakaway 8-0 major decision, moving the score back within two.
The heavyweight match between Eli Anthony and Luke Niemeyer came down to the final seconds, both wrestlers fighting to break a 1-1 stalemate. Niemeyer took the points for the Bison with six seconds remaining, giving Bucknell its first lead since the opening matchup.
Bucknell improved its win streak to four with wins at 125lbs, 133lbs and 141lbs, opening to the score to 21-9 with two matches to follow.
Tyler Williams gave the Dragons some life at 149lbs, taking an early lead over Bucknell's Kolby DePron (19-8). Williams 10-1 lead after one period helped him push to a 15-5 major decision victory, putting Drexel in double digits.
The final match came down to Parker Kropman and Nick Delp who fought to a sudden victory, tied 11-11 through regulation. The score fell in Delp's favor in SV, securing a 23-13 win for the Bison.
The Dragons are back in action next weekend for a single road matchup against American on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
