VESTAL, N.Y. – After shutting out Morgan State 46-0 on Friday, the Binghamton wrestling team honored its senior class by nearly replicated that performance for Senior Day by defeating Sacred Heart 43-3 Sunday at the Events Center.
Following their Senior Day ceremony, where they
Brevin Cassella,
Ivan Garcia,
Nate Lucier and
Micah Roes before the match, the Bearcats carried their momentum from Friday into their dual with the Pioneers by winning another nine bouts. Binghamton finishes the weekend by ultimately winning 19 out of its 20 bouts between its two duals.
"I think it's amazing to see," said Binghamton Wrestling Head Coach
Kyle Borshoff as he reflected on the contributions of the team's senior class. "I've been with all these guys their whole career. They put a lot of time and effort and love into this program and to this sport, and it's exciting to see those guys having success this season."
Highlights
• The Bearcats picked up bonus points in six matches. Among those victories came from
Cory Day, who pinned Marc Berisha for his 12th fall of the season. Day has matched his total of 12 pins from last season, which was a career high for the Buffalo, N.Y., native. Day also remains among the nation's leaders in pins for Division I wrestlers, as he entered the weekend ranking fourth.
• Following his first collegiate dual victory on Friday, freshman
Dillon Arrick once again stepped up for the Bearcats by getting his first career dual pin against Mike Manta. Arrick has earned bonus points in both of his dual appearances this season after he previously recorded a 21-4 technical fall against Morgan State's Jimmie Jones on Friday.
•
Fin Nadeau posted his first pin of the season after taking down Vincent Milazzo in the 157 lb. bout.
• Both Cassella and
Carter Baer picked up back-to-back technical falls on Sunday. Baer only needed 1:38 to defeat Calvin Pineda 17-2. In the next match. Cassella shut out Aidan Zarrella 17-0 in 5:43.
• With their victory against the Pioneers, Binghamton has won nine duals this season. It is the second year in a row that the Bearcats have won at least nine duals, after the team went 9-4 in 2023-24. The last time Binghamton won at least nine duals in consecutive seasons was in 2017-18 and 2018-19. The Bearcats went 12-5 in 2017-18, before following that up with a 10-3 mark in 2018-19.
