
Wrestling Wins Fourth Straight; Defeats American at the DAC, 32-6

PHILADELPHIA - Jordan Soriano and Giuseppe Hoose each scored falls as the Drexel wrestling team downed American, 32-6, at the DAC Friday afternoon. The Dragons (8-8) have now won four straight, leading the EIWA Independence Division with a 3-1 record. DU was victorious in eight of ten matches, earning bonus points in four of them.
No. 32 Desmond Pleasant kicked things off for DU against Coen Bainey at 125-pounds. The lightweight fought off a takedown near the end of the first, keeping things scoreless after three minutes. Bainey got the escape point to begin the second, and nearly got the takedown. Pleasant once again battled, turning the tables to get the three points to lead 3-1. The redshirt junior took control in the third, collecting two more takedowns on way to a major decision, 11-2.
Kyle Waterman added three more points for Drexel at 133-pounds against Raymond Lopez. Waterman gained the early advantage in the opening period, securing the takedown for the 3-0 lead. One escape point each gave Waterman the lead, 4-1, heading to the final third. The Holland, Pa. native slammed Lopez to the mat twice to take the 10-5 decision win.
No. 30 Jordan Soriano collected his third fall of the season at 141-pounds, getting the pin in the second round over Cael McIntyre. The junior came roaring back after falling behind in the first 3-1. Soriano had the advantage on top most of the second period, before he went for the finish. With under 20 seconds left on the clock, the Westbury, New York native got the takedown and went for more. He took four back points and got the finish at 4:54 to collect six points for Drexel.
Dom Findora recorded another sudden victory win at 149 pounds. The bout with American's Gage Owen was tied at one apiece heading into overtime. Findora got the takedown in the opening period on way to a 4-1 win. No. 22 Luke Nichter followed to add three more points. The EIWA No. 1 ranked wrestler at 157-pounds led the entire way, with a takedown and an escape point good enough to win by decision, 4-2.
Jasiah Queen took down Caleb Campos at 174-pounds. Campos was ranked No. 33 in the recent NCAA Coaches Poll. Queen collected two takedowns in the first, taking a 6-1 lead. The redshirt freshman scored two more takedowns in the third to get the major, 13-3.
Hoose got the job down in the first period against Lucas White at 184-pounds. The graduate student finished the bout in 1:14 for his first pin of the season. Mickey O'Malley was victorious once again at 197 pounds against Carsten Rawls. O'Malley earned a takedown in the opening minute of the match, and held on for a 5-2 decision win.
