VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton wrestling team dropped a tightly contested dual with Buffalo Sunday afternoon by a score of 17-16. The Bearcats almost completed a comeback after trailing 14-3 halfway through the match, but came one point short.

Buffalo opened the match with two straight wins (decision and tech. fall), before Michael Zarif got Binghamton on the board with a 5-3 decision over Ben Freeman. Trailing 3-1 in the third, Zarif earned a takedown and added two back points to get the win.

After two straight narrow losses at 149 and 157 pounds, Brevin Cassella gave Binghamton an important major decision victory over Noah Grover, 9-1. Capitalizing on an early takedown, Cassella earned four near fall points and coasted to the win.

Jacob Nolan followed suit with a 9-5 decision over Guiseppe Hoose. Nolan dominated throughout, but was taken down in the final seconds trying to extend his lead into major decision territory.

Following another close loss at 184 pounds, Lou DePrez earned a 5-3 decision over Sam Mitchell. DePrez was strong on top through two periods, before Mitchell added a late takedown to keep it close.

Trailing 17-13 in the team score, Joe Doyle had his eyes set out on a pin, and nearly did it on several occasions. When it was all said and done, his opponent Toby Cahill survived the scare, but Doyle did win the bout by decision. Buffalo escaped with a 17-16 win.
