Wrestling Tops Bucknell on the Road, 20-13

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Drexel wrestling team earned their second win in the EIWA this season as the Dragons defeated Bucknell on Friday night, 20-13. With the win, DU keeps control of first place in the EIWA Independance Division with a 2-0 divisional record. No. 20 Mickey O'Malley returned to action, capturing a late victory over No. 28 Dillon Bechtold. No. 33 Desmond Pleasant, No. 32 Jordan Soriano, Dom Findora, No. 19 Luke Nichter, and Giuseppe Hoose all come home with victories. 

Pleasant opened things up at 133-pounds for the Dragons in dominant fashion. The Piscataway, New Jersey native cruised his way to a 21-6 technical fall win, his first of the season.

Soriano added three more points for Drexel at 141-pounds, upsetting No. 17 Dylan Chappell. The junior nearly capped off the second period with a pin as he ended with a 8-5 advantage going into the final two minutes. The Westbury, New York native fought off a strong attack from the two-time NCAA qualifier, adding two escape points to hold on for the decision win, 10-8.

Findora got back on track as he defeated Braden Bower in the 149-pound bout. A takedown in overtime earned him the 7-4 decision win. Nichter kept his momentum going at 157-pounds. The redshirt senior recorded two takedowns in the match, on way to another win. He has now won 4 out of his last 5 matches.

Hoose once again pulled out a last second victory at 184 pounds. The graduate student trailed to Logan Deacetis, 5-3, with under 30 seconds left in the contest. Hoose managed to wrestle his opponent down to get the takedown and the decision win, 6-5.

O'Malley returned to the mat for Drexel, clinching the dual win in a competitive 13-10 decision win over No. 28 Dillon Bechtold. After two takedown and two nearfall points, the graduate student at led 8-1 in the first period before Bechtold mounted a comeback. Bechtold recorded two takedowns in the second to tie things up a 9-9 heading into the final period. A takedown in the final ten seconds sealed the victory for the Dragons, as O'Malley earned his third win of the season.
