PHILADELPHIA – Penn Wrestling hosted the 25th Annual Keystone Classic: Presented by Herrington Financial on Sunday at The Palestra. Four Quakers took home titles as Penn took the team title. The Quakers had wrestlers wrestle for first place in eight of the ten weight classes.
Michael Colaiocco (133),
Carmen Ferrante (141),
Cole Urbas (197), and
Ben Goldin (285) all won their respective weight classes. Goldin earned the title of Most Falls in the least amount of time. Urbas was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the meet.
As a team the Quakers won the title with 194.5 points, 40.5 points more than second place Appalachian State.
Ryan Miller used a 3-1 decision in sudden victory to advance to the first-place bout at 125 pounds. He lost a 6-3 decision in the final bout to Caleb Smith (App State).
Colaiocco won by fall in his first and second round bouts to advance to the semifinals where he won by major decision over Sean Carter (App State) to advance to the finals. He earned his second-straight title at 133 pounds by a 7-4 decision against Codi Russell (App State).
Third time's the charm for Ferrante as he wrestled in his third final bout this time at 141. Previously he fell short in his final bouts at 125 and 133. Ferrante won by fall in his opening round and won by decision 3-2 and 4-3 to advance to the final bout. In the final bout, he went down 2-0 early after his opponent earned two points for a takedown. It stayed 2-0 after the second period but Ferrante would get a takedown of his own to tie it at 2-2. Kaden Cassidy (George Mason) took the lead with :49 remaining as he got a point for a successful escape however riding time was in Ferrante's favor. Time expired in the third period and the bout went to sudden victory. At the 1:10 mark of overtime he earned the victory with a takedown winning the bout and 141 title by a 5-3 decision.
Zapf opened his day with a technical fall victory and then won by major decision to advance to the title bout. He would forfeit the title bout due to medical reason, earning second place.
Nick Incontrera won by fall in his first and second bouts and then won his semifinal bout by a 5-1 decision. The freshman advanced to the final bout which set him up for a battle for 33rd street as his opponent was Michael O'Malley from Drexel. O'Malley would win by fall to take the 174-pound title.
Neil Antrassian earned three straight wins by decision to claim a spot in the final bout at 184 pounds. He would lose by technical fall to earn second place.
Urbas won most outstanding wrestler by wining his first bout by fall. He won his next two bouts by technical fall including a shutout of his semifinal opponent, Austin Stith (George Mason). Urbas dominated his final bout earning the technical fall (16-1, 2:31).
Goldin ended the day with a title for Penn as he won by major decision (12-2), defeating Mike Burchell (App State) for the 285-pound title. Goldin took home another trophy as he had the most falls in the quickest amount of time by any wrestler on the day.
