STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 15 Lehigh saw its four match winning streak to open 2022 come to an end Sunday with a 26-9 loss at No. 4 Oklahoma State Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena. A Cowboy team that featured nine nationally-ranked wrestlers saw those grapplers go 7-2 on the day as Oklahoma State raced to a 15-0 lead and never looked back.
Junior Josh Humphreys (157), sophomore Brian Meyer (165) and senior Jordan Wood (285) picked up wins for the Mountain Hawks, who fall to 8-5 in duals this season. Oklahoma State remains unbeaten at 10-0.
With Lehigh trailing 15-0, eighth-ranked Humphreys put Lehigh on the board at the halfway point with a 7-3 decision over No. 13 Wyatt Sheets. Humphreys totaled two first period takedowns and a third period reversal plus more than four minutes of riding time as he improves to 2-1 in his college career against Sheets.
Meyer faced the only unranked Cowboy, Jalin Harper and posted a 2-0 decision, scoring an escape in the second period and then riding out the third to claim the riding time point.
Wood capped the dual with a 6-0 win over Luke Surber, scoring takedowns in each of the first two periods plus a second period escape and riding time.
The dual began at 125 where sixth-ranked Trevor Mastrogiovanni scored takedowns in the first and third periods to defeat junior Jaret Lane 5-1. Second-ranked Daton Fix then put Oklahoma State up 9-0 with a first period pin of Malyke Hines at 133.
At 141, first-year Connor McGonagle picked up Lehigh's first takedown of the day against No. 22 Carter Young. McGonagle led 3-2 after one period and 4-3 with riding time over a minute in his favor in the third, but Young answered with a takedown and was able to ride out and erase the riding time advantage to win 5-4.
A 5-1 decision by Kaden Gfeller over first-year Paul Watkins at 149 put Oklahoma State up 15-0.
Oklahoma State stopped Lehigh's two bout run with three straight wins from 174 through 197. First year Jake Logan dropped a 5-3 decision to No. 8 Dustin Plott at 174, while AJ Burkhart and JT Davis both dropped major decisions. Burkhart scored the first takedown against No. 10 Dakota Geer but ultimately fell 23-10, while Davis dropped a 12-2 major decision to top-ranked and defending national champion AJ Ferrari.
