Drexel Wins Against Morgan State and American

The Dragons Complete a 3-0 Weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Dragons defeated Morgan State, 43-0 and American, 31-6 on Sunday afternoon. Jaxon Maroney pinned #31 Maximilian Leete in a sudden victory to upset the Eagles and highlight a 3-0 weekend for Drexel. DU  improves to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the EIWA. The Dragons won 18 of 20 weight classes on the day and won their inaguaral matchup against the Bears. 

Match 1 - Morgan State 
Against MSU, Desmond Pleasant started the day off strong with a tech fall, 20-3, in full-time. John Hildebrandt took the mat for the Dragons at 133lbs. He scored two takedowns and added a pair of back points to enter the second period with an 8-1 advantage. The redshirt freshman added another three points in the middle frame and earned riding time for an 11-6 decision. In the next two matches, Jordan Soriano and Dom Findora earned Drexel bonus points as they both defeated MSU by tech fall. Fifth-year senior, Tyler Williams, extended the lead by tech fall on twelve back points in the opening period. 

The Dragons led 23-0, at the halfway point. At 165lbs, Cody Walsh scored a takedown and four near fall points to help him win an 8-3 decision. The next match was scoreless after three minutes of action. Jack Janda started the second period with an escape and took down Vann for a 4-0 decision. In the next weight class, Ethan Wilson matched up against Kyle Grey. A takedown in the middle frame was enough to claim his second dual victory of his career, 4-2. 

Ibrahim Ameer scored six takedowns on his way to a 24-4 tech fall. In the final match, Santino Morina pinned Tyler Stewart in 6:05 to clinch Drexel's first win on the afternoon. The Dragons captured their first shutout since 2018 when in a 41-0 victory over The Citadel, in the Northeast Duals.

Match 2 - American 
The second dual of the day opened up at 125lbs. Pleasant picked up his second bonus point victory by a major decision. Next up, Jaxon Maroney battled against #31 Maximilian Leete. The first period ended tied at four with each wrestler taking down their opponent and then escaping. Maroney took a one-point lead after five minutes of action. #31 Leete came back to score on a reversal and DU escaped which tied the match at six, headed into sudden victory. After a few resets, Maroney fired a shot off the whistle and caught Leete on his back for the fall. Jordan Soriano kept the Dragons rolling with a 6-4 decision as he rode out the Eagles the entire third period. At 149lbs, Dom Findora defeated Gage Owen by decision to extend Drexel's lead to 16-0 after four matches. American claimed their first victory by decision at 157lbs. 

Cody Walsh bounced back after a low-scoring bout against Morgan State. He defeated Ryan Zimmerman by tech fall with over three minutes of riding time. Jack Janda was down 1-0 in the second period at 174lbs. The Dragon tied the bout at one with a riding time point at the end of regulation. In the second minute of extra time, Janda fought for the takedown to win, 4-1, in sudden victory. Ethan Wilson capped off a 3 for 3 performance in his first set of duals at 184lbs. Ibrahim Ameer defeated AU for DU's eighth individual bout victory. In the final match, Santino Morina kept #33 Will Jarrell on his heels but the Eagles won the bout 3-0.
