Hempstead, NY - Zachary Knighton-Ward and Ricky Stamm picked up decision wins from the David S. Mack Physical Education Complex as the Hofstra wrestling team suffered a 35-6 defeat to Navy in an EIWA dual match. Hofstra falls to 2-9 overall and 1-3 against conference opposition following today's result.

Stamm earned his ninth win of the season with an 8-4 decision over Val Park at 165 pounds. Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Stamm reversed Park and immediately scored four back points for a six-point swing, taking a 6-2 lead into the third period. Stamm solidified his win with a takedown 30 seconds into the third period and, despite allowing Park to escape twice, prevented any more points to be scored.

The #19 wrestler in the country at 285 pounds according to InterMat, Knighton-Ward scored a pair of first period takedowns and used stellar defense to block takedown attempts from Grady Griess to secure a 4-2 decision win, his seventh win by decision this season.

The Midshipmen (1-2, 1-1 EIWA) won eight of the 10 matches in today's dual, with bonus points coming in five of those wins.

Hofstra returns to the mat next Saturday, January 22, against Binghamton in EIWA action. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
 
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 0-7 all-time against Navy. Today was only the third time since 2000 that Hofstra and Navy have squared off in a dual meet.
-With his win over Val Park, Ricky Stamm now has 60 wins for his Hofstra wrestling career.
-Zachary Knighton-Ward is now 4-0 against EIWA opponents this season.
