VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team made a grand return to the West Gym Thursday, as the Bearcats defeated Hofstra 31-6 in their home opener. With the win, Binghamton takes sole possession of first place in the EIWA's Independence Division.
Binghamton won eight out of the 10 matches throughout the dual. The highlight of the afternoon came from
Carter Baer, who took down No. 27 Kyle Mosher 5-2 in the 165 lbs., match.
"It was a great day for us," said Binghamton Wrestling Head Coach
Kyle Borshoff. "We wrestled really strongly across the board. Shoutout to
Carter Baer. Getting that first nationally ranked win of his career is huge. We've always known he's good enough to do it and he knows it too. And being able to show that in the match is really important."
Highlights
• Baer got a takedown just seconds into his match against Mosher, before adding two more points via one escape and having 1:56 of riding time.
• Both
Brevin Cassella and
Micah Roes added bonus points for the Bearcats by each picking up a technical fall. Cassella defeated Eric Shindel 21-4 in just over four minutes on the mat. Roes, meanwhile, took down Gauge Shipp 19-3 in just less than six-and-a-half minutes. Cassella now has four technical falls this season, while Roes has two.
•
Cory Day recorded his team-leading eighth fall of the season when he pinned Danny Church in 1:34 to close out the dual.
• Trailing 4-1 in the third period,
Fin Nadeau rallied to defeat Jurius Clark 6-5 in the 157 lbs., bout. Nadeau first picked up a point after Clark was called for stalling before gaining another one with an escape. Nadeau then took down Clark to take a 6-4 lead before holding on to defeat the EIWA placewinner.
