BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU wrestling team had a big win at home Saturday, beating Sacred Heart, 26-15 on Senior Day, to notch the first dual meet win of the season. Prior to the match, LIU honored their ten graduating members. The Sharks picked up victories in six out of ten weight classes, with
Ryan Ferro nabbing a pin at 174 to clinch the match.
SHARK BITES
- After dropping the first match of the day at 184, the Sharks rattled off three straight victories.
- Nunzio Crowley beat Mark Blokh in a major decision win at 197, 16-3. Then Tim Nagosky had a decision win at 285, beating Nicholas Copley, 9-3.
- Freshman Robbie Sagaris continued the hot streak with a major decision win at 125, where he beat Jacob Venezia, 10-0.
- LIU continued their hot streak aat 141, where Devin Matthews defeated Chris Naegele of SHU, with a 16-0 tech fall, in just under three minutes of action.
- Drew Witham nabbed a 10-0 major decision over Rafael Lievano at 149, to make the match score 21-6.
- At 174, Ryan Ferro sent the Sharks faithful home happy with a pin over Alex Marciniak in just over 90 seconds, to both clinch the 27-15 victory for LIU and nab the Sharks their first win of the 2021-22 season.
- The Sharks will be back in action Friday, March 4th, when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for the EIWA Championships.
