Carson Wagner secures ranked win against No. 18 Diego Sotelo of Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Binghamton wrestling team earned two dual victories on the road Saturday against a pair of Ivy League programs, defeating Harvard 26-12 and Brown 18-17.

The Bearcats rallied from behind in both duals. Binghamton first trailed Harvard 9-0 after three matches, before winning the next six to pick up 26 unanswered points. Then against Brown, down 18-15 heading into the final match, Nate Lucier tied the dual at 18 with a clutch 7-6 decision over Ian Oswalt. After the match ended, Brown was deducted one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving Binghamton the 18-17 victory.

"Our team did a great job today wrestling against two tough teams," said Binghamton Wrestling Head Coach Kyle Borshoff. "We stayed composed and competed hard across both duals. I'm proud of the effort that we had today."

Highlights
•    Binghamton's final win against the Crimson was Carson Wagner taking down No. 18 Diego Sotelo 10-5 in the 125 bout. The sophomore took a 5-2 lead thanks to a combined reversal and near fall against the two-time national qualifier. Wagner also defeated Brown's Jared Brunner in a 17-3 major decision to help the Bearcats tie the dual at 15.
•    Cory Day recorded his 10th pin of the season against Harvard's Jeff Crooks. The heavyweight entered the week tied for fourth in the nation in falls with nine. With this latest pin, Day has now posted at least 10 falls two seasons in a row. He had 12 pins during the 2023-24 season.
•    After not appearing in competition the prior week, Brevin Cassella made a triumphant return to the mat by winning both of his matches Saturday. Cassella first pinned Harvard's Haden Bottiglieri, his second fall of the season. Later in the day, Cassella then got an 11-1 major decision against Brown's Drew Clearie. With his two victories, Cassella continues to lead the team in both overall wins (18) and dual wins (10).
•    Needing a win to give Binghamton a chance at taking the dual, Lucier went into the final minute of his bout against Oswalt trailing 5-3. With about 30 seconds remaining, Lucier grabbed a hold of Oswalt's leg to eventually take him down for the lead for good, tying the dual at 18. After Brown was deducted a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct, Binghamton was declared the winner of the dual.
