Bears go 2-1 in Thursday Tri-Match at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – Brown wrestling went 2-1 in a tri-match on Thursday against Franklin & Marshall, Presbyterian and Davidson at the Alumni Sports Center in Lancaster, Pa. The Bears came away with wins over Franklin & Marshall (25-10) and Davidson (22-19), their loss was in a competitive match against Presbyterian (23-15).

Senior Shane Hanson-Ashworth (125 lbs.) and sophomore Hunter Adrian (133 lbs.) each won all three of their matches. Sophomores Ian Oswalt (141 lbs.), Blake Saito and Sam McMonagle (157 lbs.) were all 2-0 on the day with McMonagle taking two major decisions.
 
"We saw some strong performances today," said Head Coach Jordan Leen. "Our first half of the lineup is coming along and more guys are choosing to wrestle the right way. I look forward to watching many of the guys compete again tomorrow as we hope to finalize our starters at some weights."
 
vs. Franklin & Marshall
Hanson-Ashworth started with a 7-4 decision at 125 pounds and Adrian continued his winning ways with a 2-0 decision at 133 pounds. The sophomore class kept it going with a string of four-straight major decisions. It was Oswalt at 141 pounds (10-2), Saito at 149 (10-2), Keegan Rothrock at 157 (12-0) and Harrison Trahan at 165 (12-0). Sophomore Drew Clearie picked up a 10-5 decision at 174 pounds to give the Bears 25 points in the match.
 
vs. Presbyterian
Brown fell in its second match of the day to Presbyterian. The Bears got off to a fast start as Hanson-Ashworth won a 4-3 decision at 125 pounds, Adrian took a 6-4 decision at 133, Cabanillas won by technical fall at 149 and McMonagle captured a major decision (10-2) at 157 pounds to make it a 15-6 advantage in the match. Presbyterian then came back to win the final five matches to defeat the Bears, 23-15.
 
vs. Davidson
Brown finished the day on a high note with a victory over Davidson. Hanson-Ashworth (Dec. 4-2), Adrian (WBF 3:45), Oswalt (WBF 4:30), Saito (Dec. 8-1) and McMonagle (Maj. Dec. 8-0) made it a 22-0 lead for the Bears, who had enough to hang on as the Wildcats made things interesting by taking the final five matches to collect 19 points.
