
Bison Take Down Rider; Fall to No. 13 Iowa State at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. – Bucknell wrestling split its two matches at the Virginia Duals on Saturday afternoon. The Bison opened the day with a win over a tough opponent in Rider, 23-15, before falling to No. 13 Iowa State.
Dillon Bechtold, Myles Takats, and Noah Mulvaney each went 2-0 on the day. Bechtold is now 12-5 on the season and Takats improved to 14-4.
Bucknell 23, Rider 15
The Bison set the tone early with two big wins at 197 and 285. Bechtold gutted out a 4-2 decision before Nolan Springer picked up an electric fall in just 52 seconds to get out to a 9-0 start before a forfeit at 125.
Phipps and Chappell rattled off back-to-back decisions after the forfeit to restore a nine-point advantage. Rider's Sammy Alvarez and Colton Washleski cut the lead to 15-12 after decisions at 149 pounds and 157 pounds, respectively.
Mulvaney made his return to the mat after missing the previous four dual matches. Mulvaney trailed 3-1 after the first period, but he came back to pull off a 6-5 decision to put the Bison up 18-12.
Takats was relentless, putting the match away with a 17-0 technical fall.

It was a tough go against one of the top teams in the nation in the second dual of the day. The Cyclones quickly took a 21-0 lead after claiming the first five matches.
Mulvaney provided another spark for the Bison, getting a fall over Aiden Riggins in 6:21 at 165 pounds. Takats followed up with a 9-6 decision over MJ Gaitain to cut the deficit to 21-9.
At 184 pounds, No. 12 Evan Bockman defeated Mikey Bartush by major decision to put the match away at 25-9 with two matches to go.
Bechtold picked up his second win of the day, defeating Nathan Schon by a 9-2 decision.
