Drexel Battles Back To Secure 25-18 Victory Over Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – The Drexel wrestling team fought its way back from a 12-4 deficit to bring home a strong 25-18 victory over Little Rock on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons move to 1-1 in dual competition heading into tomorrow's matchup with No. 5 Oklahoma State.
Kyle Waterman got the Dragons off to a strong start at 125lbs, taking a dominant 13-2 major decision victory over Little Rock's Jayden Carson. The Trojans swung the momentum back in the 133lb-149lb matches, securing three straight victories to take the lead 12-4. Jared Donahue came close to a victory at 141lbs, losing a 6-4 sudden victory fight with Ward.
Despite the deficit, the Dragons never stopped pushing forward. Parker Kropman started Drexel's upward trend at 157lbs with the first of five straight wins for the Dragons. Evan Barczak and Brennan exchanged points back and forth, tied at two with a final period to go. The grad student controlled the tempo through the final two minutes for a 6-3 decision. Barczak's win helped move the Dragons back within two, 12-10.
Mickey O'Malley improved to 9-0 on the season with Drexel's first fall victory at 174lbs. The redshirt junior took an early 2-0 victory and never looked back. O'Malley gave Drexel their first lead of the day with a fall at 3:35. Bryan McLaughlin followed suit with the Dragons second fall victory at 184lbs, powering past Mendoza in 5:12.
Santino Morina recorded his first appearance of the year at 197lbs, marking Drexel's fifth straight victory with a 5-0 decision. The Trojans won by fall at heavyweight, but Morina's win opened the gap wide enough to secure the Dragons team victory.
The Dragons are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on No. 5 Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. EST.
