BRIAN “NIP” BROWN,
F&M ‘80 placed 4th and 5th
nationally to become one of five Diplomat All-Americans and their
sole double medalist. He was a sophomore EIWA champion at 134,
F&M’s first winner since 1972. Nip then reached the NCAA
semis while unseeded. He won his first bout in overtime, 14-14,
6-0, then upset the #3 seed, also beating 3-time All-American,
Rande Stottlemyer.
As defending league champion in
‘79, Brown lost a 9-7 finals vs. Lehigh four-time NCAA
finalist, Darryl Burley. As NCAA 6th seed, Brian lost
again in the semis to Burley, the champion. The bout was one of
just six EIWA match-ups semi-finals in the last 43 years. As
a senior Brian managed a second place despite a late-season knee
injury. An NCAA #10 seed, Brown went 2-and-2 and didn’t place
despite beating a future two-time All- American from the Big Ten.
An unheralded recruit out of Manheim, PA, Nip Brown compiled a
four-year record of 84-14-4.
The three-time team MVP graduated
in 1980 with a dual major in chemistry and business administration.
Today he works in sales for Keystone-Peterbilt, where he works for
his college wrestling coach, Stan Zeamer.
