Carl W. Frankett

      *CARL W. FRANKETT, SR was a Bethlehem, PA native and longtime contributor to wrestling in countless ways since graduating from high school in 1935. A retiree from Bethlehem Steel Corp, for many years he worked at Billy Sheridan’s first wrestling clinics and he began officiating in 1940, working many duals, Easterns, NCAAs, Pan Am Games, and Olympic Trials,. He coached at Muhlenberg and Moravian colleges between 1949-65 and was president of the EIWA for several years. He was a co-broadcaster of Lehigh wrestling meets on WGPA radio from points as far away as the NCAAs at Seattle and a founder of the Bath Firefighters Wrestling Squad.

      In 1986 Carl became a charter member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Association and in 1994 was elected to the National Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame. A longtime resident of Hellertown, PA, Carl died in 2003 in Bethlehem at age 86. Longtime husband of Hazel, he was survived by two daughters and a son.
