LLOYD ‘BUTCH’ KEASER, Navy ‘72 was a 3-time EIWA champion and NCAA 4^th and 3^rd. He served five years in the Marines as an OCS instructor. In 1973 ‘Butch’ won titles in AAU, World Cup and at Worlds in Iran. In 1975 he achieved a rarity by winning U.S. Greco-Roman and Pan-Am Games freestyle titles. He placed 2^nd and 3^rd in Tbilisi, then in ‘76 won AAUs and earned Olympic silver. He was 1972 Olympic alternate, losing only to Dan Gable. Butch was 54-6-1 in college and earned Navy’s leadership award. At NCAAs in 1970, he lost 7-6 in one of 10 pigtail bouts at 142. In both ’71 and ’72, he lost in the semis – 5-5, 3-3,rd, to Darrell Keller (NCAA 1,1) and 3-2 vs. Tom Milkovich (1,4,6). Both won titles by beating Larry Owings by four points.

      As Marine, Keaser was rated four times as expert in both pistol and rifle. He then assisted Ed Peery from 1975-77. In 1985, Butch became an IBM systems engineer in Baltimore and civic leader. A frequent speaker to disadvantaged youth and other organizations, he raised funds for the Olympics. Butch Keaser is a member of five Halls of Fame – National Wrestling; USNA; Brooklyn Park HS; Anne Arundel Co. and the State of Maryland. The Lloyd W. Keaser Community Center in Baltimore is named in his honor. He’s continued to assist wrestling into his 60’s at Wilde Lake HS in MD.
