MICHAEL LIEBERMAN, Lehigh
‘76 won no National Prep titles at Blair
Academy, then at Lehigh placed once at Easterns in two tries, fifth
as a freshman in 1973. His 2-year win-loss record was
20-14-1, then after red-shirting, Michael won two EIWA titles and
placed NCAA 1st and 3rd. His 1976 national
title comeback win was the last college loss suffered by
Iowa’s 2-time NCAA champion and World champ, Chris Campbell.
As a senior, Lieberman placed third three months after a cracked
neck vertebrae after Midlands. Returning February 14, his
semi-finals defeat to 2-time NCAA 2nd, Mark Johnson of
Michigan, ended a 37 bout win streak, fourth-longest in Lehigh
history.
Mike’s record for his last
two years was 46-3, winning 39 of his last 40. An Allentown native,
Lieberman worked in advertising, the former Chairman of L-A
Advertising, at its peak the largest ad agency in Northeast
PA. A generous and active supporter of his university and of
Lehigh Wrestling, he is a former president of the Lehigh Wrestling
Club.
