ANDY NOEL, F&M
‘72 earned a dual mark of 31-5 and placed 2nd
in the EIWA at 142 to future World Champion, Lloyd Keaser. Andy was
a two-year Diplomat co-captain, before earning a master’s at
Colgate. Noel was Cornell’s head coach from 1974-88 (four Ivy
titles four seconds), then served two years as assistant director
in athletic public affairs .
He became Cornell AD in 1999
after three years as associate director. His leadership helped
raise $66 million and Cornell’s 30 endowed positions leads
the nation, 21 achieved under Andy. During his tenure, Cornell has
won 87 Ivy team titles and 23 national titles (11 team, 12
individual). The program won 31 Ivy titles from 2003-06, a CU
record, with a record nine in 2005-06. Cornell has won at least six
Ivy titles in 11 of 12 seasons vs. three times in the first 46
years of Ivy competition.
Andy is a member of the F&M
Hall of Fame. In 1992 he was inducted into the NY State Wrestling
Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Noel served on the wrestling
committee of the NCAA, was an NCAA Championships Cabinet member and
serves on both the Misconduct Appeals Subcommittee and the Playing
Rules Oversight Panel. In 2006, he was named a Wells College
Trustee. Noel is married to Dr. Betsy Mead Noel ‘86 and they
have three children.
