Navy's Josh Koderhandt named EIWA Wrestler of the Week

Josh Koderhandt (141), the Soldier Salute champion and Outstanding Wrestler has been named EIWA Wrestler of the Week!

The Navy senior and team captain Josh Koderhandt (141), capped off the two-day Soldier Salute tournament by going 4-0 and claiming the 141 lb. title.  His championship run also garnered him the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament award.

After drawing a bye in the opening round, Koderhandt began his day in the round of eight where he met Northern Iowa's Carter Freeman. Koderhandt held a 4-0 lead before ending the match in the second period pinning Freeman. In the quarterfinals, Koderhandt was in a low scoring match against Iowa's Cullan Schriever. Koderhandt went into the third period with a slim 1-0 lead where he controlled the round but Freeman escaped Josh's grasp to send the bout into sudden victory. The Belleville, Ill., native secured his ticket to the semifinals with a takedown in the final minute.

Koderhandt continued his dominance on the second day of the tournament by scoring his fourth fall of the season in the semifinals over South Dakota State's Julian Tagg.

The finals was set in a showdown between the ninth ranked Koderhandt and No. 6 Vance Vombaur from Minnesota.  Koderhandt earned his second ranked victory of the 2024-25 season in a tight 4-2 match. It was Josh's first tournament title this season.
